Troubled by visions of the future, former Marine Nat West finds himself unable to build a future for himself in rural Virginia now that he has returned home from war in Iraq. I bought "Bound in Vengeance" following my reading "The Mechanist " . Bound in Vengeance is a lesser example of Robert Nelson's talent. This book while rather well edited, does have some significant faults. Many of the passages are choppy with some missing words, can be jolting. The story itself is light and pleasant without any real depth, perhaps a good thing for the target audience. For me it is utterly forgettable, and unremarkable. The dialogue is an area of weakness, in that all characters sound the same. It is a mark on master craftsmanship when an author manages to make each character sound distinct through their speech patterns in the dialogue. Nelson achieved this in small measure with "The Mechanist" but totally missed the mark with "Bound in Vengeance" . The sex scenes are virtually nonexistent, which I find to be a good thing, but there was an obvious effort to create tension that just failed.On the much more positive side, the character development is above average, the plot is reasonably well timed, level of description is balanced with the depth of the story. The editing and publishing, are very professional with only the before mentioned missing words, and the commonality of the dialogue to quibble over.
Overall a good early effort by a beginning author. A light fluffy bit of mind fodder, so long as the price point remains sufficiently low. Nelson is an author that I intend to follow in the years to come.

Magic, suspense and fun!
I feel honored to be the first person to review this book on . I can't even remember when I picked it up, but I'm glad I chose to read it. It's great and fast paced. I had a really hard time putting it down. I couldn't find an appropriate spot in the book to bookmark it)
Nat starts to have visions of the future and doesn't realize it at first, until the events actually come into play. Finally understanding what he is seeing and watching it come true he tries to figure out how to prevent the future from unfolding in a negative way.
Aine is a witch, immortal in her own right. She is on the run from a demon, of what status no one has any idea.
Nat tries to run the demon over with his truck in an alley one night and ends up getting involved with the problem of figuring out how to kill the demon that is stalking Aine. In the process he meets Aine's long time immortal friend Corvus, finds out about The Elders and their Children, who brought magic into this world and has to keep his sister Naomi and his best friend Ben safe, even if he has to lie to them to keep them from worrying and out of harms way.
Bound in Vengeance keeps your blood pumping until the end with it's twists and, of course, the puzzle of how to kill the demon.
Great beginning but once the story got into the whole demon, vampire , djinn thing I lost interest. Thought the veteran would carry more of the story but he left me out once he started with his magic. This had good potential and would have been a better tale, in my opinion, had it not taken a fantasy route.
